K.E.R.S. System
K.E.R.S.
or Kinetic Energy Recovery System, was introduced to the sport of Formula 1
since 2009 and was a mainstay from 2012. The K.E.R.S. in F1 works by harnessing
waste energy created when braking and transforms it into electrical energy,
providing additional power to the F1 car’s drivetrain and engine.
The
technology has been used in the first EV (Electric Vehicles) since 1832, but
due to the expensive technology of making batteries big and strong enough to
harness and transform kinetic energy, the development was slow.
With
the advancement in technology and production of components, EV’s and K.E.R.S.
motors are more common nowadays. Manufacturers from Asia, Europe and the United
States continue to develop this technology to lessen the amount of pollution we
produce by using oil and gas.
