Mind-blowing Science

Last, last week, people from Mind Museum came over in class and shared some things about Science.  Apparently, they were called “Mind Movers” and their job was to communicate science in a fun and not-boring way.  They did handle their jobs pretty well.

They started by asking us what Science was in our own words.  They were trying to find out how well we understood that word.  Then, they showed some demos in class.  On the first one, they borrowed a 500-peso bill and washed it with alcohol and they set it on fire but it did not burn, this was due to the diluted concentration of alcohol with water.  Another one was an illustration on air pressure wherein they had this huge plastic water bottle and they filled it with alcohol, put a match inside and covered it up, causing it to implode.  The last demo was a dance exhibiting the different phases of matter.

This job of the mind movers is actually a great idea.  People usually sleep Science out but with the way that they present it, they could totally wake the audience up and even let them enjoy Science.  Indeed, they are revolutionaries in terms of spreading scientific concepts out to everyone.  I believe that with the perpetuation of this endeavour, more children will be made interested in Science and more people will begin to understand and appreciate their world.
