The First Lady
Reaction on Imelda Documentary

I knew Imelda Marcos as the wife of former president Ferdinand Marcos, a famous shoe collector and nothing else. But when I watched the documentary pertaining to her, I got to know some of her background and her growth in Philippine politics. Some facts may not be that surprising due to what I heard from the news before. But some facts presented kind of comical. The documentary as a whole is interesting to watch. It is both informative and entertaining.

Imelda Marcos, during her youth, was beautiful and confident which are good traits. But there was this instance that she got too confident. When she joined a beauty pageant and did not successfully get the title, she contested the result. These traits also what captures Ferdinand Marcos’ eyes.

As a wife of Ferdinand Marcos, Imelda Marcos was very supportive to her husband’s aspiration of becoming the president of the Philippines. She thoroughly helped with his campaign. She was always present whenever Ferdinand Marcos showed up in political events. Her support continues even after Ferdinand Marcos triumph in the elections.

Imelda Marcos was not an ordinary wife and first lady. She also engaged herself to political engagements. She became a mother to the Filipino people. She even claimed that she became an inspiration to the poor with her extravagant clothing. She helped in awakening the interests of people and enriched the Philippine culture by building museums and theatres.

But aside from her accomplishments as a first lady, she was not able to escape certain issues such as leaving the dead bodies of the workers who built the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Aside from political issues pointing to Imelda Marcos, Ferdinand Marcos also has his own issues. And Imelda Marcos was very firm in stating that the allegations were not true.
